God and the granola lesson | #rewind

Hey there BCU Family!

I have been thinking about what to post this week, and the Lord brought my attention to a #RandomYetIntentional moment He taught me back in 2017–and is still relevant today (that’s just goes to show how timeless God’s Words and directions are. I actually recorded the moment on video and it is up on the BCU YouTube channel, or if you’d prefer, you can watch it here>> Granola lesson video.<<

If you’re reading here or listening on the podcast, not to worry, the audio file from that video is below (click on the avatar), and you’ll be able to get the message just the same! Scripture references are below as well, so you’ll be able to link back to God’s Word as you apply the lesson accordingly.

Diligence–Hebrews 11:6

Daily Bread– Luke 11:3

Thanksgiving in all things–Colossians 3:17

Chastening–Hebrews 12:6

Being “busy”–Luke 10:38-42

Seeking God’s face continually– 1 Chronicles 16:11

Hiding the Word–Psalm 119:11

Seeking God early–Psalm 63:1

Being equipped for the day–Ephesians 6:10-18

Walking in the Spirit–Galatians 5:16

You know, BCU Family, it’s AMAZING how God takes something as “small” and temporal as granola to teach us a HUGE and ETERNAL lesson! With His help, let’s be intentional, diligent and purposeful in spending prime time with God. Amen? Amen!

  • 2021 was a year of challenge for many of us—myself included.
  • God gives us people for a season–it’s important to nurture relationships.
  • The people we are given are not always easy to deal with, but God commands up to love them anyway.
  • We can do that with His help.

Scripture references: (King James Version)

Matthew 5:38-48

38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

BCUFam, my intent was to come on for a “casual” conversation/update, but the Lord led me in this way and I THANK Him! I’ve been dealing with some unlovely people, and this was a timely reminder to do what God says–exercising humility and kindness, rather than “clapping back”. God saw everything and will take care of the offense in His own time and way. Meanwhile, I want to be sure with His help, that I continue doing what I am supposed to do, so I may have the honor of being called a child of my Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:45a). Amen? Amen!

Talking versus praying

Podcast highlights

This post is inspired by a meme that asked “have you prayed about it as much as you have talked about it?”

James chapter 1 reminds us that we need to count “divers temptations” we go through all joy. What we tend to do in many cases is complain to those who will listen (ask me how I know). 😉

There is nothing wrong with talking to someone to get better (godly) counsel on situations, but we also need to take matters to the Lord in PRAYER.

In fact, we need to take EVERYTHING to the Lord in prayer.

Scripture references (KJV)

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture (Psalm 100:3).

There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD (Proverbs 21:30).

Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counseller hath taught him? (Isaiah 41:30).

But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand (Isaiah 64:8).

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

While we trust God to take care of the situation, He will take care of us. @BCU

Oooh-oooh whee BCU FAM–did the Lord speak to your heart the way He did mine? The loving rebuke was real, but I thank Him for it! Let’s talk about it in the CHAT box below!

Room a203: 10 Random things about bcu

Hey there BCU Family!

Typically, you have the option of listening to our podcast, reading the notes or both. For this post, because of the informal format, please tune into the podcast (click on the avatar below), recording and refer to the written post for the highlights. We pray the post blesses and encourages you. If so, please thumbs up AND leave a comment! Thank you and enjoy the post!

So, with all the unrest and heavy sighing many of us have been doing, I thought I’d post a little something on the lighter side. Last year, I did a random BCU facts post, where you got to know more about me, so let’s dig in a little more!

  1. As hard as it is to believe, I am really very shy and introverted. As a youngster, it was a struggle for me to speak up in school and in front of crowds ESPECIALLY when I am unfamiliar with the people. (It’s different when I know the people, hence why I was talkative at home and in small familiar settings). And I still am very introverted and prefer in many situations to just be quiet. This is a testament to God being real in my life. It’s only Jesus–and the Holy Ghost down on the inside that allows me to teach, speak and minister in front of people.
  2. I LOVE bracelets. Silver ones, specifically, but there is something about those tinkling, sparkly round spheres that makes me happy! Once again, I think I owe this to Mrs. Patricia Dickerson, my third grade teacher.
  3. I have never seen “Star Wars” and have no interest in doing so. I don’t know why.
  4. Several years ago, a wonderful evangelist, Elder Leon Ellison, testified that he had been saved longer than he had been in the world. I remember thinking, “WOW, what a great testimony— I got saved at age 24, how many years do I have to go to share that testimony?” To the glory of God, in 2017, I was saved 25 years!
  5. I did a small stint as a gospel D.J. YES, indeed! When my daughter was little, the Lord blessed me to reorganize the Monday night gospel skate, and I was actually in the booth spinning the C.D.’s! Those were good times!
  6. As a child, some of my favorite foods were “Oodles of Noodles” (a.k.a. Ramen Noodles). My dad used to make them for us on Saturdays sometimes, and that was a big treat and even an affordable meal into my early adulthood. That love abruptly stopped when I was expecting my daughter–the smell of them made me extremely ill. Although my daughter is grown, to this day, just the thought of those noodles brings back the smell and invokes a bit of nausea. I want nothing to do with them. Ever.
  7. I have a thing for body and skin care that is organic and made with clean, simple materials. I have baskets of all sorts of jars, tubes, bottles and containers with all types of soaps, scrubs, lotions, shea butters and oils that work well and smell pretty yummy. I am open to try your favorites. 😀
  8. For those of you that know me, I LOVE old school television shows, and haven’t watched network television regularly in years– but on occasion, I do enjoy a little binging of Law and Order Criminal Intent (with Vincent D’onofrio). There is something about the psychological element of the crime that fascinates me. I also catch a little “This is Us.” (thanks, Jewel). 🙂
  9. There are certain gospel songs I’ll put on repeat for hours at a time for days at a time—especially if I am going through a rough patch, or if the song just ministers to me at the time. What are my current favorites? “He’s sweet I know” (Hezekiah Walker), “More than anything” and Jesus Will (Anita Wilson) and “I am God” (Donald Lawrence).
  10. Folding clothes is one my least favorite chores. I have a mind to live out of the clothes basket [Insert shrug].
  11. Bonus: I got married recently. I actually need to stop saying recently, because it’s almost been a year. I may need to share that story one of these posts. 😉

There you have it, BCU Family! So, did anything surprise you? Or did something on the list resonate with you? Let’s talk about it in the chat section below!

And…we’re back!

Hey there BCU Family!

  • 2020 was a year of challenge for us all.
  • It is imperative that we continue to hold on to Jesus.
  • There are times when God does not always reveal the “why.”
  • While we do NOT always everything God allows, we CAN trust Him.

Scripture references: (King James Version)

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? (I Peter 4:17-18).

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38).

BCUFam, this is NOT the time for us to grow weary and quit on Jesus! Rather, we want to hold on to Jesus all the more, as we see this world looking for answers that can ONLY be found in Him. And especially now, we may be the ONLY example of Christian living that some may see , so we want to be the ones to point people to our Jesus whom we have our hope in. So with God’s help, let’s continue to pray, fast, read our Word, and live this life so that God will get the glory out of us. AND one day soon, we will get to hear Jesus say, “well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord!” That’s something to be EXCITED about! Amen? Amen!
