The Good Part

Hey there BCU Fam!

Podcast highlights:

  • We live in a world that glorifies productivity, getting things done, and busy-ness.
  • I spoke with someone who enjoys serving, helping, and taking care of others.
  • While those areas are needful, our relationship with God should be first, or we may miss important directions and insights Jesus wants us to know.
  • Jesus illustrates this in a familiar passage of Scripture with two sisters named Mary and Martha.

KJV Scripture References

Luke 10:38-42
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

BCUFam, I confess that for this podcast, I had one direction in mind, and the Lord took me in a different direction——and I thank Him for taking over! Ultimately, my prayer is a) something was said that resonated with you, and b) that we can continue to be more like Mary, and get the good part out of what Jesus has to say to us today! Amen? Amen! Let’s pray!

Father in the Name of Jesus, as we come before you today, we thank You, as always, Lord, for reminding us to stay in lockstep with You.
Jesus, we want to be intentional about sitting at Your feet and taking in Your Word.

Thank You, Jesus for helping us to remember that we are to commit our works to you so that You will establish our thoughts (Proverbs 16:3). In following Your Word, this will keep is from being full of care, anxious or overwhelmed, knowing that when You give us directions and we follow them, everything will work out perfectly, because You are perfect in all of Your ways (2 Samuel 22:31).

Thank you, Lord, for continuing the blessed and keep us. And as always, with your help, we will give Your Name all the praise, glory, and honor. In Jesus Name, we pray, Amen!

The Original Fantastic Four

Hey there BCU Fam!

Podcast highlights:

  • Recently, we fellowshipped with our friends in the Lord, Pastor and First Lady Brewer of Faith and Power Ministries.
  • I was tasked to give a 12-minute “lecture” that would lay the foundation for the main speaker.
  • I know The Fantastic Four is a Marvel creation known and loved by many…
  • …The Bible has the ORIGINAL Fantastic Four—–let’s talk about THEM!

KJV Scripture references

Mark 12:29-31

29 “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Mark 2:1-12

1 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (He saith to the sick of the palsy,)

11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

BCU Fam, this was a call to action for me! How many of us are neighbors to someone in need? Would we “carry” someone to Jesus? Are we doing what we can to “take off the roof” so someone can be forgiven? Healed, Saved? Delivered? Are we bringing our neighbors (family, friends, co-workers, enemies, government officials, bereaved, homeless, etc, to Jesus in prayer? Speaking an encouraging Word? Witnessing to those we come in contact with? Being the answer to their prayer by bringing a meal, being a listening ear, or helping out in some way?

The original “fantastic four” are a perfect representation of how we as believers love our neighbors as we love ourselves. With the help and unction of the Holy Ghost, let’s be more aware of those whom we interact with, and show the love of the Lord to them today. Amen? Amen!

NKJV Scripture references

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Daniel 3:16-24

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.

17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.

18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.

20 And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

22 Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego.

23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?”

They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.”

25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire.

27 And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.

Jeremiah 20:9

Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name. But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones, I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.

John 15:1-3

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.

Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

John 8:12

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Matthew 5:14

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Romans 8:37

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Acts 2:38

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

BCU Fam, ONLY God could have put all this topic together this way! He is truly a present help and can totally be depended on. My prayer is that what He said encourages you to go on in Jesus name! And if you do not know Jesus in the pardoning of your sin, today is a good day to repent for all you’ve done to sin against Jesus. The truth is we all have sinned, but Jesus paid for those sins and wants a relationship with you. Prayerfully read Acts chapters 1 and 2, focusing on Acts 2:38 for the plan of salvation. Pray and ask God to lead you to a Bible-based church who baptizes in Jesus name and believes in the indwelling of the Holy Ghost–and the initial evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost is speaking in tongues. Then, you can live this life with Jesus down on the inside, who will lead and guide you from Earth to Heaven where we will be with Him forever! Please contact me if you need more information and we can go from there! Amen? Amen!

Leaning to my own understanding..

Podcast highlights:

  • While I cook pretty regularly, I really ENJOY non-cook nights.
  • When I do take-out, I usually like to go into the establishment and check my order prior to leaving.
  • On this occasion, I did not heed the direct voice of God.
  • That disobedience brought on consequences and a reminder.

KJV Scripture references

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

James 1:19

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath..

I Corinthians 6:12

All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Ephesians 6:15-17

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

1 Samuel 15:22

And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

John 10:3-5

To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

Isaiah 55:8-9

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Psalm 119:60

I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.

Oh BCU Fam, we really waste time and when we lean to our own understanding. More importantly, we may miss opportunities in the kairos (God’s perfect timing) time zone that may never come our way again. Even in God’s mercy and kindness, sometimes, we don’t get do-overs (ask Esau). So, with God’s help, let’s ask the Lord what to do, and obey His voice straightaway. Amen? Amen!

Acknowledging the Lord in ALL….

Hey there BCU Fam!

  • Proverbs 3:6 reminds us “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, [The Lord] and He shall direct thy paths.”
  • Acknowledge means to recognize or to regard with honor.
  • We need to be intentional in asking the Lord how to direct us in every aspect of our lives, including routine tasks.
  • Sometimes, His path will help us avoid danger; other times, His path will help us deal with adversity properly.
  • When we ask the Lord how to get something done, even in in the worst of circumstances, it will always come out perfectly.
  • Conversely, when we react without including God, the outcome will have consequences we will not enjoy.

Scripture references (KJV)

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:6).

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God…..But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (James 1:19-20,22).

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23).

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5).

The following Scriptures are excerpts for the podcast. Please read the chapters in their entirety.

Esther 2:21-23

21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.

22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name.

23 And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.

Esther 3:2-6,13.

2 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

3 Then the king’s servants, which were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?

4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

6 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

Esther 4:15-17

15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,

16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.

Esther 6:6-12

6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,

8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:

9 And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.

12 And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.

See that BCUFam? Mordecai had every right AND an opportunity to expose or even reach out to hurt Haman. Rather, he fasted (acknowledgement) and followed (in meekness)the plan the Lord laid out. In doing so, Haman had to honor Mordecai publicly and then Haman was put to death for his wicked scheme.

We do not have to sacrifice our righteousness, gentleness, love or anything else the Lord has put in us to win a battle. Just know that if we ask Him what to do, how to do it and follow His contrary to popular belief plan, we WILL give us the victory and He will be honored and praised! Amen? Amen!
