 35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

BCUFam, Bartimaeus did what was needed to get the attention of Jesus—and that was cry out in faith and persistence until he was in the presence of the Lord. And Bartimaeus received a double blessing—– not only did he receive his sight, he went on to become a follower of Jesus! When we go to Jesus with a heart of importunity, we can expect the Lord to answer our prayers by giving us all that we need, and maybe a little (or a lot) extra! Amen? Amen! Let’s pray!

Father, in the name of Jesus, as we come before You, we thank You as always, for encouraging us to continue coming to You in prayer. There are some of us who are have been asking for certain things for a long time, Lord. Because we know we are to pray and not faint, we know You are able, we know that it is our faith that pleases You, we continue to bring our requests to You for help, deliverance, healing or whatever blessing someone needs today. Above all, we pray that someone realizes that they need You as a Savior, and will surrender to You TODAY, Jesus according to Acts 2:38-29. Glory to God!

As we continue to come to You in persistent prayer we will also continue to serve You and give You all the praise, glory and honor that is due Your name! In Jesus Name, we pray, Amen!

Importunity | The Widow x The Unjust Judge

BCUFam, sometimes God doesn’t answer our prayers right away, but that doesn’t mean we stop asking. If a corrupt judge can be moved by a persistent widow, how much more will our righteous God do for His very elect (chosen) as we call on Him in faith and importunity? With the help of the Lord, we will keep praying, knowing that the Lord is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6) Amen? Amen! Let’s pray about it!

Father, in the name of Jesus, as we come before You, we thank You for the parable of the unjust judge and widow reminding us to come to You in faith and importunity. We thank You for answering our petitions and avenging us according to Your will and timing.

As we continue to come to You in persistent prayer we will also continue to serve You and give You all the praise, glory and honor that is due Your name! In Jesus Name, we pray, Amen!

BCU Word Study: “Importunity”

  • The Greek word for importunity is anaídeia, meaning no shame, without embarrassment, even when others cry “overdone” (i.e. accuse them of being extreme or excessive).

Matthew 18:21-35

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

BCUFam, are you feeling as encouraged as I am? It is SO comforting to know that we can boldly go to the throne of grace to obtain help in a time of need (Hebrews 4:16). God does not shame or punish us for asking for what we need——He WANTS us to come to Him with whatever is on our hearts. Now, we also must remember that because God is wisdom and is all-knowing, if what we are asking for isn’t good for us, He will let us know. Hearing a “no” can hurt our feelings (whoooooo, ask me how I know), AND can save us from getting stones, serpents and scorpions. So with the help of the Lord, let’s ask, seek, knock and look for Him to provide the perfect answer according to His will and way. Amen? Amen! Let’s pray about it!

Father, in the name of Jesus, as we come before You, we thank You for the Word of God that has refreshed our souls! We thank You for reminding us that we can come to You in prayer with all of our concerns, situations, thoughts and feelings, without shame or worry, knowing that You will answer our prayers according to Your will and timing. Above all, we thank You for the gift of the Holy Ghost and, for blessing someone today to repent, be baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost so they can experience the goodness that can only come from a relationship with You! In Jesus Name we pray, Amen!
