Being Still in a Busy World

Hey there BCU Fam!

Podcast highlights:

  • We live in a world that leans heavily into and almost encourages worrying and hurrying.
  • When we function as the world does, our hearts and minds are constantly consumed with our cares.
  • The Lord reminded me of a Scripture that brings my heart and mind into perfect peace alignment with Him.

KJV Scripture References

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Psalm 34:19

Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Hebrews 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

BCUFam, I used to think that in order to be a “good, caring Christian”, I needed to be consumed with everything going on—in constant think and figure it out mode. The Lord let me know that a mind consumed, worried and hurried cannot be still and know Him. Rather, if we still ourselves before the Lord, He will quiet our minds down, and let us know what to do. And we can rest in the fact that His directions will be perfect, because He is perfect. Amen? Amen! Let’s pray!

Father, in the Name of Jesus, we thank and praise You for reminding us to be still. Please help us, Lord, to not be anxious and over consumed with anything, but with prayer, supplication and thanksgiving, make our requests made known to You, and Your peace Lord Jesus, that passes all understanding will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6). And as that peace comes in, with Your help, we will be able to hear You, and to follow Your divine directions, as we continue to give You the praise, glory, and honor, that belongs to You! In Jesus’ Name, we pray, Amen!

Podcast highlights:

  • Last time we were together, a cashier “gave” me some canned goods.
  • Because of how I received the merchandise, the Lord would not let me rest about the situation.
  • My quandary was not wanting to get the cashier in any trouble, as I knew some of her financial story.
  • The Lord sent my best friend to council me on how to take care of things so that He was pleased.

KJV Scripture References

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 11:14

14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

I Peter 4:18

18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

WHEW BCUFam, I am SOO grateful to God for wise counsel (thanks Kenya!), and following the leading of the Lord in paying for those items! And He worked out so I didn’t get the cashier in trouble (let’s keep her in prayer that God speaks to her heart about doing things correctly and saves her). Additionally, the head cashier was also able to be witnessed to, so God had a purpose for the interaction from the start. I just love how intentional our GOOD God is! Amen? Amen! Let’s pray!

Eternal God and amazing Savior as we come before You today, we bless Your name, and we praise You!
Lord, please help us to hear Your voice clearly, and to be obedient and follow through on what You’re telling us to do, so You are pleased with us. We thank You, Lord, for every opportunity that we have to represent You with distinction! In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we bless you and we praise You, Amen!

BCUWord of The Week: “Judge”

Hey there BCU Fam!

Podcast highlights:

  • Today, we will revisit the classic #BCUWord of the Week video series here and on YouTube.
  • “Judge” is this week’s word. One definition in Hebrew is “shofet” meaning, to select, decide or discern. It can also mean, “a deliverer from potential defeat” (that is very important).

Scripture references

Luke 7:41-43

41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

I Corinthians 11:28-31

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

Matthew 7:1-5

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

John 7:24

24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

Luke 18:10-14

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Proverbs 18:13

13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

BCUFam, did it surprise you that we make judgements daily as it relates to decision-making? What about the phrase “you cannot judge me”? It is a blessing to now have a deeper understanding and wisdom around this important word. With the help of the Lord, let’s make it our business to judge only according to how the Lord instructs us. Amen? Amen! Let’s pray!

Father, in the Name of Jesus, we come before You with a thankful heart for more insight into Your Word, and for helping us to judge things the way You would have us to, or not at all. We ask that You would help us to turn the spotlight on ourselves on all the areas needed to be more like You. Also, as we are speaking and commenting about things, please help us to remember to acknowledge You first, so that our speech is edifying, administers grace to the hearer and is seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6 and Ephesians 4:29). We ask that You continue to bless and strengthen us, as we continue to walk upright before You, in Jesus name, we pray and thank You, Amen!

“You CAN’T judge me!”

Hey there BCU Family!

Typically, you have the option of listening to our podcast, reading the notes or both. Podcast highlights

  • A few years ago, the Lord led to start a *BCU YouTube channel where we did an in-depth study on a word or phrase from the Scriptures.
  • The Lord led me to share the audio/video on the word “judge.”
  • Judge [shofet in Hebrew] means to select, choose, decide or to discern.
  • We all make judgements on a daily basis.
  • Judge also means a deliverer from potential or actual defeat.
  • We often say it’s wrong to judge and in some cases it is. In many more, cases judging is needful.

Scripture references:

Luke 7:40-43

40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on

1 Corinthians 11:28-32

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment (John 7:24).

So BCU Fam, what do you think about judging? Was any the content a surprise to you? I have to say that the judge being a deliverer spoke to me, because if I had listened to some of those who were “judging” me, I would not have had to go through some of the situations that I have encountered in my life! What do you think? Let’s talk about it in the comments section below!
