The repeat offender…

Hey 👋🏾 there BCU Family!

Typically, you have the option of listening to our podcast, reading the notes or both. For this post, because of the conversational format, please tune into the podcast recording and refer to the written post for the corresponding Scriptures. We pray the post blesses and encourages you.  If so, please thumbs up or leave a comment! Thank you and enjoy the post!

A while back the Lord blessed us to conclude a study on #TamingTheTongue–where we talked about how we will be offended (Matthew 18:1-7) or we will OFFEND others (James 3:2). Armed with this knowledge, we want to respond to offenses and apologize to those we offend in a spirit of love and humility.

During a conversation with a friend of mine, we talked about “repeat offenders”,  and how that type of disobedience is offensive. Moreover, not only is it offensive to the person who gave the directive or asked a behavior be stopped, but offensive to others who are actually obedient (it’s distracting and often causes more work for the compliant people–for example, getting to work on time, etc.), and most of all, practiced offending offends God. Yes, it does.

Scriptures to meditate on:

Woe unto the world because of the offenses! For it is needful that offenses will come, but woe to the that man who brings the offense (Matthew 18:7).

In many things, we offend all. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and is able to also bridle the whole body (James 3:2).

To him that knows to do good and doesn’t do it, it is sin (James 4:17).

And Samuel said, has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than to sacrifice, and to hearken, than the fat of rams (I Samuel 15:22).

So, BCU Fam, what’s your reaction to practiced disobedience equating to sin? What is it that you may be holding on to, in the way of repeat offending? What other thoughts do you have on this call to action?  Please scroll on down to the comments section and let’s continue our conversation!

The biggest loser: getting rid of dead weight.

Hey 👋🏾 there BCU Family!

We’ve talked about being offended and attacked while “on the wall”, and while we’re warned that offenses will come, depending on the severity of the attack, it can take a minute to recover and more importantly, understand the lesson behind the situation.

In this podcast, I discuss a situation where I was offended and what the Lord showed me I NEEDED (rather than the offending party) to do. Click below to listen in.

Scriptures to meditate on:

Woe unto the world because of offences! For it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence comes! (Matthew 18:7).

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body (James 3:2).

The discretion of a man defers his anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression (Proverbs 19:11).

Wherefore seeing that we are also compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that does so easily beset us.. (Hebrews 12:1).

Finally brethren, whatever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think of these things (Philippians 4:8).

Come unto me all that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).

So, BCU Fam, what’s your reaction to the podcast? How do you handle offenses after the fences have been mended? Do you let the details go?  Are you catching the lesson God is showing you?  Please scroll on down to the comments section and let’s continue our conversation!

…And humility for the win!

Hey 👋🏾 there BCU Family!

In recent weeks, we’ve been talking about my recent testing in pride and humility–it’s been ROUGH, y’all, but God is faithful as He brought and taught me through it.

A couple of weeks ago, while having a conversation with a family member about mouthing off, the Lord reminded me about a trial He brought me through YEARS ago where a LARGE amount of humility was required. I was a baby Christian then (probably just months old) and knew little to nothing about pride, so the way He blessed me through it was amazing.

He has put them down from their mighty seats, and exalted them of low degree (Luke 1:52).

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time (1 Peter 5:6).

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. Acknowledge the Lord in all you ways and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom (Proverbs 13:10).

In every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God concerning you. (I Thessalonians 5:18).

And we know that ALL things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

So, BCU Fam, that’s my story! Do you have a situation about a co-worker who you’ve had to endure? How are you doing with that? Are you catching the lesson God is showing you?  Please scroll on down to the comments section and let’s continue our conversation!

If you love them that love you, what is your reward? Do not the publicans (tax collectors do the same? (Matthew 5:46).

[Love] does not behave itself unseemly, is not self-seeking, is not easily provoked and thinks no evil (I Corinthians 13:5).
