The Birds…

Podcast highlights:

  • A few weeks ago, we noticed a beautifully fashioned bird’s nest.
  • It is estimated that there are almost 20,000 species of birds in the world, and they all build nests and find food relative to their ilk.
  • God, in His infinite wisdom, not only created each species, He told/tells them what to do to function.
  • As God’s greatest creation, how much more will He direct us, if we follow His lead?

Genesis 1:10;19-20

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

Matthew 6:24-31

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

BCU Fam, every time I read this passage of Scripture it blesses me! I have never seen a bird walk the nest worried about the next meal. They do what God tells them to do and they eat and rest daily. Think of all the lilies are that grow each year without working or thinking about what they will put on, yet they grow and are beautiful! How much more will God take care of US? God has given everything He created instructions on how to function on Earth including us, through His Word. With His help, we need to mediate on His Word and follow through with what He tells us, starting with seeking His kingdom and His righteousness knowing everything we need will follow. Amen? Amen! Let’s pray!

Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank You for this day you have made and we rejoice and are glad in it. Thank You for reminding us that You take care of everything you created beautifully, and will do so much more for us, who You made in the likeness and similitude of You. Thank You for letting us know that You love us and will take care of us—–we need to follow Your Word and trust Your directions. Remember those of us who are struggling with worry, concern, and doing what You have requested. Help us to remember that when we do things Your way, they will turn out perfectly, because You are perfect in all of Your ways. Thank You for blessing us to walk by faith and not by sight in these situations, and when it’s all said and done, we can look back over those concerns and say that Jesus took care of every last need, so You will be glorified, honored and praised

We also thank You, Jesus for blessing everyone here who has not made You their choice, to do so, by repentance, baptism in Jesus name and being filled with the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:38. We thank you for Your drawing, saving and keeping power working in lives all over this world, in Jesus name, we pray, Amen.

Dysfunction | It runs in the family…Part 2

  • Last time we were together, we learned that any behavior that deviates from the Word of God is sin. Sinful acts are a dysfunction—–and dysfunction runs in all families.
  • For instance, deception, broken promises, lies, murder–are all examples of sinful behavior that people have committed from the beginning of time.
  • In part 2 of our podcast, we continue talking about Jacob’s family——-a perfect example of a very dysfunctional family–and how God intentionally chose members of that family to be in the lineage of Christ.

Genesis 38-1-30

And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

17 And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.

21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.

26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.

30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.

Genesis 49:1-28

1 And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

2 Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father.

3 Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:

4 Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch.

5 Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.

11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:

12 His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

13 Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for an haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

14 Issachar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens:

15 And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.

16 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.

17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

18 I have waited for thy salvation, O Lord.

26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

27 Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.

28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.

We do not have to be bound by our family lineage, background or past sin to be chosen of God.

BCUFam, if you turn to Matthew 1, you can see the lineage of Christ includes Jacob and his son Judah, both former deceivers; David a repentant murderer, and his wise son, Solomon, who had 1,000 women in his life; some wicked kings, Abijah and Rehoboam; some better, but faulty kings, Asa and Jehoshaphat, on down to Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ (Matthew 1:16). See that? The bloodline of Jesus had ALL kinds of dysfunction in it, but that did not stop Jesus from fulfilling His mission to save us. Armed with that knowledge, we should encouraged to know that our backgrounds do not disqualify us from being chosen and used by God. Are you still in doubt? Let’s pray about it.

Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank you for the good news and reminder that when you call us, the only special qualifications we need are a repentant heart, water baptism in Jesus name, the Holy Ghost on the inside, and a willing heart to serve and represent You in our lives. Thank you for helping us to serve You with distinction and blessing us to walk worthy in the vocation in which you have called us, so You, Jesus are glorified, honored and praised! We thank you for encouraging our hearts today and always, in Jesus name, we pray, Amen!

Throwback post–Let’s talk about pride.

  • A few years ago, the Lord led to start a *BCU YouTube channel where we did an in-depth study on a word or phrase from the Scriptures. 
  • The Lord led me to share the audio/video on the word “pride”.
  • Pride [zadon in Hebrew] means to “boil” up, to be arrogant or high-minded.
  • The sin of pride is a chosen disposition that only cares about one’s own feelings or situation.
  • Left unchecked, pride will keep us living in a frequent visitor in a state of offense.
  • Walking in humility and forgiveness how the Lord wants us to live our lives.

Scripture meditation:

 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom (Proverbs 13:10).

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).

But when his [Nebuchchadnezzar’s] heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him (Daniel 5:20).

A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit (Proverbs 29:23).

 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world (I John 2:16).

So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses (Matthew 18:35).

Can I truly live free from worry?

  • There are legitimate concerns that come up in all our lives from time to time, or even more often.
  • Dwelling on these concerns can get us to a state of consistent fret or worry.
  •  Merriam Webster defines worry as “to harass by tearing, biting, or snapping especially at the throat”, and then “to subject to persistent or nagging attention or effort” and “to afflict with mental distress or agitation = make anxious”. Yikes.
  • God knows that about us, so He’s given us His Word on what to do when we feel worried.
  • When we disobey what God says about not worrying, in essence we are calling Him a liar.
  • God wants us to trust that He knows everything going on with us and will take care of whatever we need in His way and timing.

BCU Fam, let me stress that there are things we will be concerned about. The diagnosis, prognosis, the marriage, the family, relationships, the job, finance–just the state of affairs happening in life—any of that enough for anyone to sit up day and night to worry about. For those of us who know the Lord in His fullness, we have His promise that He will take care of us. We can rest on His word. Amen? Amen!

A talebearer reveals secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter (Proverbs 11:13).

Romans 1:28-32
