Room A203: The BCU Story

Hey there BCU Fam!

Typically, you have the option of listening to our podcast, reading the notes or both. For this post, because of the informal format, please tune into the podcast recording (click here or on the BCU avatar below) and refer to the written post for the highlights. We pray the post blesses and encourages you. If so, please thumbs up AND leave a comment! Thank you and enjoy the post!

Podcast highlights:

  • As a young girl, I used to want to be a nurse or a teacher.
  • When I grew up, my career choices eventually led me to corporate America.
  • My early career days (before Christ) were filled with a lot of “fun” that wasn’t pleasing to the Lord.
  • The Lord saved me and took me through quite a few hard times and lessons–as well as good times that led me to my gifts of encouragement and teaching.

Scripture references

Proverbs 18:16
A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

Ephesians 4:11-12

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Romans 12:4-8

For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Sometimes our choices come with hard consequences we have to walk out. The good news is that God will walk with you.

BCU Fam, the Lord is so marvelous—He has a way of orchestrating the individual events of our lives so that He gets the glory. I had no idea that all of the hard situations I had been through would bring me to His perfect will both in my work and spiritual life. If the Lord says the same, I’ll continue the story the next time we are together!

The Slick “Clapback”

Hey there BCU Fam!

We pray the post blesses and encourages you. If so, please thumbs up AND leave a comment! Thank you and enjoy the post!

Podcast highlights:

  • A few years back, the term “clapback” was trending on the internet and in-person.
  • Clapbacking is not new–basically, it means if someone insults you, you insult them back in a more demeaning way.
  • As people of God, many of us know we are to respond to people in a biblical way that pleases God.
  • While many of us may have gotten the victory over insulting others, we can often get “revenge” in a different way.

Scripture references

Proverbs 4:23

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

I Peter 3:8-9.

Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

2 Corinthians 10:5

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Psalm 19:14

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Romans 12:19

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Philippians 4:6-8

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Matthew 6:15

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

The Lord saw the offense coming and He chose not to intervene, so there must be a lesson for us..

BCU Fam, secret clapping back is an area many of us have/ do struggle with from time to time. When the Lord alerts us to this breech of His Word, we want to quickly repent, ask God to help us forgive the person, and then have a gentle conversation with the person about the offense, if the Lord leads you in that direction (not all offenses need to be confronted). Then follow the leading of the Lord regarding reconciling your relationship. I realize that not all relationships will be restored back to their original state, so please listen to the Lord, versus your own judgement, so He is pleased with the outcome. Once we take care of everything God’s way, then our thoughts can be devoted to what is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, virtuous and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). Amen? Amen!

Heart and mouth

Podcast highlights:

  • In my recent travels, I ran into a wonderful person of God, who I LOVE and admire.
  • We were able to briefly love on one another and went our separate ways.
  • The Lord brought back to my mind an interesting encounter this person and I had years ago.
  • This encounter was a good reminder about how what is in our hearts (thoughts) comes out of our mouths.

Scripture references

Proverbs 4:23

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Matthew 15:18-19.

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

James 1:19-20

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

Psalm 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Our words should be tasted before they are served.

BCU Fam, I am so grateful to God to report that I had forgotten about the incident until I spoke to you all about it. And even in that, I have no ill feelings, anger or bitterness–that’s a surefire way to tell if you have forgiven someone–and that’s something to give God praise for! The Lord is also reminding us make sure our hearts are clean (with His help) and full of Jesus, so that we do speak, what comes out is clean (even if we have to have a difficult conversation) and full of Jesus. Amen? Amen!

Offending and offended

Hey there BCU Fam!

Typically, you have the option of listening to our podcast, reading the notes or both. For this post, because of the informal format, please tune into the podcast recording (click here or on the BCU avatar below) and refer to the written post for the highlights. We pray the post blesses and encourages you. If so, please thumbs up AND leave a comment! Thank you and enjoy the post!

Podcast highlights:

  • A common theme the Lord has put on my mind and in my teaching is forgiveness, biblical confrontation and reconciliation.
  • At some point in all relationships, we will either be offended or offend someone–the key is handling it God’s way.
  • I recently dealt with a “perceived” offense that reminded me of a perceived offense from many years ago.
  • Let’s talk about how the Lord helped me work through both situations.

Scripture references

Matthew 18:7,15.

Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

James 3:2

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Proverbs 3:6

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Matthew 5:23-24

23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

James 1:19

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

I John 4:20

20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

Rather than stew in the situation or “fill in the blanks”, I was led to go the person and ask what happened.

BCU Fam, since we know that offenses are part of our relationships and our walk with Christ, it’s important for is to handle them biblically. If not, our pride will keep us offended, angry, accusing, bitter and hateful–and none of these are attributes of God. Moreover, we jeopardize our relationship with God and our place in Heaven. No offense on earth is worth keeping us away from Jesus, right? Let’s ask God to search our hearts to see if there is any situation where we need to forgive and/or confront the person. Once we do, He will instruct us as to how to handle the situation so the results will be perfect, because God is perfect. Amen? Amen!

That time God saved my life…

Hey there BCU Fam!

Podcast highlights:

  • In a recent Bible study, Pastor brought up how God is a Protector.
  • He went on to say that the Lord can use people to help protect us from danger.
  • As pondered on the supporting Scriptures Pastor had us to read, I was reminded of a particular time the Lord protected my daughter’s and my life.
  • It’s been a LONG time since I told that testimony, so I am sharing it today.

Scripture references

Acts 9:17-25

17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?

22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.

23 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:

24 But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.

25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket.

Acts 23:19-24

19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

22 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

The Lord knows how to strategically use people to protect us (insert praise here👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽).

BCU Fam, this happened in my “B.C.” (before Christ) days, so God had EVERY right to take my life, but He saw fit to spare and save me and that’s something to praise God for!!!!! AND I am believing Him to save my daughter and her family as well. He is ABLE!!! If you are saved according to Acts 2:38 (repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus, and filled with the Holy Ghost) then hold on to Jesus and DO NOT let go. You may have been or our going through things–God has been good to you!!! If you are not saved or are not sure, reach out to me here and let’s talk about how to get saved. Once you’ve had a touch from Jesus, you’ll never be the same again! I am a witness!
