Podcast highlights:

  • Last time we were together, we talked about Jacob, who was exiled from home because of deceiving his brother, Esau, who vowed to kill him.
  • God has spoken to Jacob and told him to go back home and in doing so, he will have to face Esau.
  • After settling his things and family, Jacob is now alone and has an encounter with a man where perseverance brings about a change and a blessing.

Scripture references

Genesis 32:22-32

22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.

23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.

24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.

Isaiah 40:31

 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Hebrews 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him

2 Corinthians 4:7-11

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I Corinthians 15:58

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

BCUFam, I can understand the “contending” with God. When the Lord was calling me out of the world, I tried to put Him on hold to finish up all the plans I had. And there were not “bad” plans, I just wanted to get all of the things done that I wanted to do before I got saved. HA! The Lord started frustrating my plans to the point I would just cry of exhaustion and frazzlement. Wait…is that a word? LOL!

Anyway, I got tired fighting and being hurt—-and decided to go on and get saved. On August 23, 1992, I received the gift of the Holy Ghost as the Spirit of God gave the utterance! (Read Acts chapter 1 and 2 for more). With the help of the Lord I have persevered through some serious trials, but the Lord brought me out all right! Jesus is the best thing that has ever happened to me! Hallelujah!!!!!
