Podcast highlights:
- Generally speaking, we are a “busy” society. Spouse, kids, church, ministry, appointments, family, pets, parties, work, chores, self-care, practice, bake sales, lessons, the list goes on, right?
- Staying connected, tiredness, and multi-tasking are considered to be a necessary hallmarks of living this life.
- While God designed us to take care of what He gave us to steward over, He also designed us to intentionally rest, as He did.
- Resting, in part, is defined as being free of toil, strain and mental exertion; ceasing of movement in body, and freedom from anxiety or worry.
- The rest-struggle is real, but God is greater. Optimal rest is achievable—-if we do things His way.
Scripture references:
30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
7 Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
BCU Fam, when following God’s will, some things on our to-do list just WILL NOT GET DONE, and we need to rest in that. While it seems “better” to do task how we want, if we ask the Lord about what we are doing and how to do it, His ways become ours—and what we do and how much of it gets done will be perfect. That’s when the rest comes in.
Our bodies and minds need to rest on the regular in order to hear God and to function optimally. Why needlessly continue to be restless in your body, heart and mind when our Good Father wants to take care of us? Let’s pray about it!
Father, in the name of Jesus, as we come before you, thank You so much for reminding us that we need to rest. We are so thankful to You that we can cast all our cares on You because You care for us. Please help us to acknowledge You in ALL our ways, so that You can direct our paths and in all our tasks, so that we are walking in Your perfect will for the day. Bless us to rest in the fact that You are a Good Father, Jesus, and when we feel anxious, worried, concerned or overwhelmed, we can come to You in prayer, and exchange our heavy yoke, for your light burdens so we can rest in our minds, souls and body. Thank You for taking good care of us, Jesus, and with Your help, we will make rest a priority in our lives so we can hear your voice clearly, and do as You say without being guilted or pressured by anyone or anything. It’s in Jesus name we thank You for hearing us and helping us, we pray, Amen!
