Room A203: Do you get enough zzz’s?

Hey there BCU Family!

Due to my laryngitis this week, we’ll skip the podcast and scheduled post and go with something on the lighter, but serious side of the house.

Many know we are supposed to get 7-8 hours of sleep, but most of us do not. Work, school, kids, chores, responsibilities–all have us up later and getting up earlier. Or, if you’re like me, you feel you do fine on the 5 hours of sleep. Right? Wrong. The infographic below (courtesy of, talks about the long-term effects of burning the candle at both ends. Chronic sleeplessness can be linked to heart trouble, immune system diseases and certain cancers! YIKES!

So while an occasional late night may not hurt, we (myself included) want to ensure we start going to bed timely. And if we have trouble falling/staying asleep, prayer before you hit the sack along with reading God’s Word will have you knocked out in no time. Ask me how I know? (wink). Here’s a little something to get you started:

Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I [Jesus] will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30.

Room A203: Sleep vs stress

Hey family,

Here’s a little something on the lighter post side,  yet VERY important as we need to get things done, yet balance that with getting the proper rest. Yes, we need to take care of the physical body as best we can so we can be equipped to carry out God’s duties, whether it’s ministry, family, work, school, or in many situations, a combination of many or all of the above!

By applying the information in the link below, in addition to praying away anxiety (Philippians 4:6-7 tells you all about that), and casting all your cares on God (after all, He does care for you, I Peter 5:7 says so), you’ll find your stress level lowering and sleep quality rising. 🙂

Enjoy and God bless you!

Groovy Green Smoothies (again)

Hey family,

If you’re like me, you strapped on the feedbag on Thanksgiving..

and it’s been on ever since! As a result and since 2014 is fast approaching, you may be aflutter about eating better. Let’s make things easy, shall we?

In between the rolls, cakes and other assorted goodies, I’ve still been consuming my green smoothies. As a reminder, these nutrient-dense treats help to take the edge off the hunger and nourish you at the same time. It’s an easy habit to begin and you’ll actually start craving them once you start. Here’s a cool infographic to get your started..I use Almond Milk as my base, but you can use whatever works best for you. Experiment and enjoy!

Here’s to a healthier 2014!

Smoothie love (infographic)

Hey Family!

Awhile back, I spoke about the love I have for smoothies, specifically green smoothies. I have one or two almost daily packed with spinach or kale, a banana, almond milk, and super foods like cacao, coconut oil, chia, flax and hemp seeds.

I usually supplement my healthy-ish meals (hey, sometimes you need a little cake!) with my smoothie and other times, I take it with me as I run errands or in between church services. It fills for a bit and keep me out of fast food land. This infographic, courtesy of, gives you a great idea on different types of smoothies and their effect on your body. Take a look and let me know if you have questions!
